Grandma’s Sugar Molasses Cookies

Posted on

This is an old recipe that my grandmother from my mother’s side passed down. She used to bake cookies all the time and send them to her children and grandchildren through the mail. My father’s favorite is her sugar molasses cookie recipe, so here it is to share.

375F oven temp,  8 minute baking time

Ingredients:
¾ C crisco,
1 C sugar,
¼ C molasses,
1 egg,
2 tsp baking soda,
2 C flour,
¼ tsp cloves,
½ tsp ginger,
1 tsp cinnamon,
½ tsp salt

Mix wet and dry ingredients separately, then chill dough in refrigerator for ~30 minutes while oven is preheating. Once dough is chilled, roll into ~1.5″ balls and coat in sugar. Place on baking sheet ~2″ apart. When cookies come out of the oven, they may appear under-baked, they harden up as they cool.
