Zebrafish “Tickle” Response – MS Research

With Dr. Ribera, I developed novel stimulation protocol for imaging zebrafish embryo notochord touch
sensing neurons (Rohon-Beard cells) fluorescence changes that are genetically encoded. I discovered
that the these cells intake calcium via this fluorescent reporter gene, indicating action potential firing at
very early stages.

Project MotivationRohon-Beard neurons in Zebrafish (one of 1st to differentiate) provide a model system for understanding neuronal development and transitions from embryonic to mature nervous systems.
